The 2009 ATRA Consumer and Business Report is based on the information gathered from consumers and transmission shop owners through two studies:

  1. An internet study of 1,000 consumers. Major auto repair within a 1-year period prior to the study was not required. This study was conducted by Roadmap Market Research.
  2. ATRA’s 2009 Business and Demographic study of transmission shops and their locations.

The purpose of the studies was to examine the buying habits of consumers based on gender and age, and to see how the down economy beginning mid-2008 affected their buying decisions. We also examined the marketing programs of transmission shops and determine the general success of each of them. This offered an insight to better ways to reach today’s consumers and grow your business; "repeat and referral”. 

This report details the finding from the two studies and then offers a conclusion and best practices based on these findings.

NOTE: The results of ATRA’s 2009 marketing study, which tracked business marketing methods is not included in this report. The findings were similar to that of ATRA’s 2008 Marketing study and are contained in the 2008 Consumer Marketing report.
